Omi - Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn Remix)

Thanks to the strange powers that be (damn the yams!) it took until 2015 for Australia to get a vaguely deep house #1 single. This is a strange entity for that. A hit? Sure. But the omnipresent hit that trumps all competitors? Odd.

I'm at two minds for how this remix compares to the original version. It does do the typical Robin Schulz trick of making the original version sound like an awkward slowed down version, but the backbone is very different. The best trick up Felix Jaehn's sleeve is revealed in the very intro; those horns are horns of glorious triumph that do a better job of encapsulating Omi's exhileration than anything in the original version. Along with that, despite what I said earlier, they are something that goes well with the song's success, it sounds like the best you could hope for if you were introduced to it as the #1 record in the country.

Sadly though, that IS the best moment. It's played a bit too safe after that, and no effort is made to improve the fact that Omi's vocals on the original were always just a little too modulated for it not to be distracting. Fine enough grooves though. 3.9
