Shine Through fand ich zwar stärker, aber auch dieses Album ist auf durchweg hohem Niveau und I Need A Dollar und Loving You Is Killing Me sind zwei Übernummern - 5.5* (aufgerundet)

Gutes Debütalbum, Hut ab. Leider hat es ein paar Songs, die als Füller bezeichnet werden müssen (z.B. If I). Ansonste schöne, ruhige Songs, die ins Ohr gehen.
Highlights:
-I need a dollar
-Green Lights
-Mama hold my hand

Ein sehr interessantes Album. Größtenteils Motown-Soul der alten Schule. Die Songs an sich sind alle nichts weltbewegendes, werden aber von fantastischen Musikern glanzvoll umgesetzt. Die Stimme von Aloe Blacc hat frappierende Ähnlichkeit mit Stevie Wonder und auch der Stil liegt schon sehr nahe beim Großmeister. Ein absolutes Highlight ist der letzte Song "Politician". Ein ausgefallenes Instrumental, dass Anfangs von Fanfaren (!!!) dominiert wird und in einem feinen Gitarrensolo endet.

Surprisingly, an incredible album full of awesomely soulful songs! I Need A Dollar is my fav, but I love Mama Hold My Hand, Loving You Is Killing Me and Take Me Back also.

A little better than I was expecting, the style isn't always to my liking but his vocals are consistently good.
